Your Natural Edge in the Fight Against Fat
Losing body fat is tough work. Let’s face it, staying lean and fit is never going to be easy, so why not take advantage of every edge possible? Max CLA is the edge you’re looking for. It will get your body looking great on the outside, but CLA also keeps you fit on the inside. It reduces your risk of developing some cancers, it’s good for your heart, aids in exercise recovery, accelerates fat loss and speeds your metabolism. That’s an edge we can all use.
CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a combination of different types of isomers of linoleic acid. It is an omega-6 fatty acid found mainly in unprocessed sunflower oil, grass-fed beef and dairy products. Diets deficient in CLA are not uncommon since so many people are cutting dairy out of their diet and grass-fed beef isn’t always accessible or cost effective. Some studies suggest that CLA consumption may have dropped as much as 80 percent over the past two decades and even those consuming CLA through their diet are not getting enough to get the benefits revealed in endless numbers of compelling studies. Supplementing with the right type of CLA is the best way to make sure you’re getting the proper amount, ensuring optimal results.
How CLA Works
It is thought that CLA reduces body fat by “shrinking” the fat cells and keeping little fat cells from getting bigger. CLA also speeds up our metabolism by converting food to energy more efficiently so we burn the fuel from food as energy rather than store it as fat.
A study in 2007 showed that CLA positively altered fat oxidation and energy expenditure during sleep. The subjects given the CLA burned fat instead of protein while sleeping. They lost body fat, and actually added muscle. A study in The Journal of Nutrition 2000 showed that CLA taken daily reduced body fat and spared muscle mass in overweight or obese people, who did not change their diet. An average of six pounds of fat was lost with the CLA group vs. the placebo group.
CLA has only been shown to reduce fat storage and increase muscle but it has also been shown to prevent fat storage. This means that CLA will also keep us from gaining weight! A study by the University of Wisconsin, conducted over the holiday season, a time when most of us gain weight, showed that CLA works to prevent weight gain and even promote fat loss. The subjects were given 3.2 grams of CLA per day and lost an average of 2.2 pounds of fat, while the placebo group gained an average of 1.5 pounds. In most of the studies, a daily dose of 3.2 grams to 6 grams of CLA taken at different times during the day is used.
It may be hard to believe, but CLA supplementation does even more than help us add muscle and burn fat. Several other studies have shown impressive health benefits including reduced risk of cancer (shown to lower breast, colon and prostate cancer), improved immune function, positive results for Type II diabetes, appetite control, improved cholesterol profile and lower cortisol levels.
